Vernon County is recruiting for a full-time Social Worker ADRC. This position offers an exciting opportunity in a rural county.
This position is in the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Western Wisconsin in Vernon County. The position provides such duties as processing new referrals, completing the Functional and Financial Screen to determine eligibility for Family Care or IRIS, and offering options counseling to individuals who are elderly, physically disabled, developmentally disabled, and those who are experiencing a mental illness or substance abuse issue. Worker will have access to a variety of information relating to programs and services available for individuals in the target groups and will be able to explain and discuss these options with clients. Worker will make home visits for the purpose of assessing client’s needs, finances, and offering services and/or program options. This position is dependent upon funding.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work (or any related college degree such as Sociology, Psychology, or Criminal Justice) and one year of responsible social work experience. Will consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of experience and training. Strong preference for minimum of one year of experience working with the same population of clients that are served by the unit in which the vacancy occurs. Must have valid Wisconsin driver’s license and access to personal transportation, or other reliable means for city and rural travel.
Requires certification by the State of Wisconsin as a Social Worker. If not certified at the time of application for employment with Vernon County, must have applied to the State of Wisconsin for a Temporary Training Certificate.
Basic understanding of the aging process, physical and developmental disabilities, mental health issues and substance abuse and their affect on individuals and families. Ability to relate appropriately to consumers/clients, family members and service providers. Ability to conduct thorough individualized needs assessments. Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, various other financial assistance programs and Family Care and IRIS. Working knowledge of Chapter 51,54 and 55 of the Wisconsin Statutes and service options available in the Vernon County area.
Wage: $19.63 - $20.82/hour (per Grade L of the 2010 AFSCME Council 40, Local 2918 wage scale), depending upon qualifications and experience. A generous benefit package is offered with Wisconsin Retirement fully paid by the County. Health insurance premium is paid at 85% with statewide and national networks. Life insurance, dental and optical plans are available.
The Vernon County community is located in southwest Wisconsin, 45 minutes south of La Crosse, 1½ hours northwest of Madison, 20 miles east of the Mississippi River.

Vernon County is recruiting for a full-time Emergency Management Director. This position offers an exciting opportunity in a rural county.
This is an administrative position for Vernon County under the oversight of the County Board of Supervisors. The Director is responsible for all duties as prescribed in State Statutes/County Ordinance and for administrating the Emergency Management Office under federal, state, and local regulations. The Director consistently exercises independent judgment and discretion in administrating the office and is responsible for the implementation of coordinated emergency services. The Director is charged with organizing, coordinating, directing, and administrating the county-wide delivery of emergency services, not otherwise specified by law and the preparation, mitigation, response, and recovery associated with emergency incidents and events.
The Director, in conjunction with the LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) administrates EPCRA program (Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act) and directly supervises a multi-county Hazardous Material Response Team.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, preferably supplemented by advanced technical training in emergency management, fire, police, or the emergency medical area. Vocation/technical diploma in related fields with at least five years of related experience or, any suitable equivalent combination of training and experience that provides equivalent knowledge skills and abilities. An Associate or Bachelor degree is desirable.
Salary: $35,022.00 - $39,078.00 (per Grade G of the 2010 non-represented wage scale), depending upon qualifications and experience.
